Deputies find missing Delhi woman

Authorities on Thursday found a missing Delhi woman alive in an orchard near her home more than 24 hours after she left distraught about news of her mother's death, the Merced County Sheriff's Department reported.

It appeared that Charlene McCombs, 65, had been wandering in the orchard northwest of her home in the 9000 block of Merced Avenue, said deputy Tom MacKenzie, a sheriff's spokesman.

She was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

There was no information about her condition Thursday evening.

Between 6 and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, she left her home after her brother called and told McCombs her mother had died. She walked out and left the front door wide open.

McCombs has a medical condition, and it was unclear to sheriff's officials whether she left wearing shoes. She was considered an "at-risk" missing person.

Sheriff's officials launched a search and rescue operation Thursday morning.
