With clocks to set forward an hour for daylight-saving time Sunday, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials want to remind residents it's a good time to change the batteries in home smoke alarms.
Most home fire deaths occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., when people are asleep, fire officials warn.
Residents should change smoke alarm batteries every six months, and an easy way to remember is to replace the batteries when the time changes in fall and spring, according to Cal Fire.
