A 16-year-old girl faked her own kidnapping Monday and demanded $1,000 from her family because she was upset that her parents had not picked her up and she had to walk home from school, authorities said.
The girl was found safe at the family's home in the 5000 block of Bogart Drive between Keyes and Ceres, said Stanislaus County sheriff's Lt. Mario Cisneros.
He said deputies, who were called to the home about 6:30 p.m., counseled the girl.
He said the girl text-messaged her sister that she had been kidnapped and her abductors wanted $1,000.
