Modesto band Stop Motion performs in the prestigious South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Tex., Saturday in a concert sponsored by speaker manufacturer OrigAudio.
With a mellow sound that could be compared to Coldplay or Keane, the band features brothers Clark (age 24), Devin (22) and Spencer (15) Beggs and Cory Thompson. Getting accepted to the festival is a thrill, the elder Beggs said.
"It's a really big deal for us," Clark said. "A lot of bands get record deals out of Austin."
The group is finishing an album that was produced by Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillot) and has posted a few songs on its Facebook fan page. Formerly known as Stop Motion Poetry (Clark Beggs said the old name was too long and too pretentious), the group has performed in Modesto's Off the Air indie music series and most recently performed at Modesto Covenant Church. The goal is to make music to pay the bills. Clark Beggs said he has had many band members come and go over the years but he finally feels like he has a good lineup.

"We have big aspirations. I think the three guys I'm with now care about the band."
