The Modesto City Council's Finance Committee next week is scheduled to examine a recommendation to begin raising sewer rates this year.
The city is in the midst of major improvements to its sewage treatment system, much of which centers on state mandates. The initial proposal would bring monthly residential rates from today's $24.11 to $34.65 in 2013.
The Finance Committee has three council members, whose decisions are not binding.
The committee meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Room 2005 of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.
