'Googlefy Modesto' movement reaches Mountain View

A group of Modesto residents who want Google to build a super-fast Internet network in town reached the company's Bay Area headquarters this afternoon.

Several members of the group ran 26 miles into Mountain view in the final stage of their three-day walk, ride and run to the company's offices.

The group was mingling outside the Google offices late this afternoon. Wally Walnut, one of the mascots for the Modesto Nuts minor-league baseball club, was among the city representatives.

The trip began Saturday with a 19-mile walk from downtown Modesto to Patterson. There was a 51-mile bicycle ride Sunday.

Modesto is one of hundreds of cities vying for the right to have the ultra-fast network installed.
