Authorities scour river for angler

A man fishing in the San Joaquin River on Monday was swept downriver and disappeared under the water, authorities said. Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies, firefighters and a helicopter searched for the man Monday evening. Sheriff's Lt. Mario Cisneros said the man and a buddy were fishing along the river near Grayson when the man entered the water. Cisneros said the man had been using some sort of device to keep himself afloat before he was swept away by the current. A friend reported the man missing at 4:23 p.m. The search was called off after sunset and will resume this morning, officials said late Monday.
