Former Modesto Irrigation District Director Mike Serpa is being sued for allegedly failing to pay $1,266 for campaign services after his election defeat in November, according to court papers.
The small-claims lawsuit, set for a hearing Monday in Stanislaus County Superior Court, alleges Serpa did not pay for campaign phone calls made from Oct. 25, 2009, to Nov. 1, 2009.
Dane and Associates, the Las Vegas company suing Serpa, specializes in prerecorded phone messages and surveys, according to its Web site.
Serpa could not be reached for comment Thursday. Nor could Tony Dane with Dane and Associates.

A real estate appraiser and former Modesto City Council member, Serpa was ousted from his MID seat by Glen Wild during the November election. Wild got 2,248 votes, or 61 percent.
In that campaign, Serpa characterized himself as the agency's fiscal watchdog and advocated against increases for ratepayers.
Serpa was elected to the MID board in 2005 with 57 percent of the votes in a three-way race.
