103 -- Garrett Fortado, Soph., Turlock
The future beckons for Fortado (38-7), whose measured pace confounded foes. He went 4-3 and placed eighth at State after winning the Section Masters, Divisional and CCC titles.
112 -- Wyatt Casey, Sr., Oakdale
Casey (33-5) confused opponents with his awkward style, but he countered effectively and finished his career by going 1-2 at State. He placed third at Section Masters and won the VOL.
119 -- Fabian Garcia, Jr., Turlock
Garcia (48-6), top-ranked in the section all season, was stopped more by a sore knee than any opponent. The injury forced him to default his final match at Bakersfield. He placed sixth at State (4-3) but swept Section Masters, Divisional and CCC.
125 -- Steven Widmer, Sr., Central Catholic
Widmer (45-9) improved each year until he reached his goal and went 1-2 at State. The hardworking senior placed second at Section Masters, successfully defended his Divisional title and won the WAC.
130 -- Shane Tate, Jr., Oakdale
Tate (41-5) lost in the final round of the State semifinals 4-2 to eventual champion Nick Pena of Selma. He can't wait for his senior year after placing third at State and winning Section Masters, Divisional and VOL.
135 -- David Ferry, Jr., Central Catholic
Ferry (51-2) won his last 26 matches, none bigger than the State final, a 4-2 overtime victory over Santa Fe's Joey Davis, who beat Ferry in January. Ferry answered by winning Section Masters, Divisional and WAC titles.
140 -- Travis Bowen, Sr., Weston Ranch
Bowen excelled in the only weight class in the district that didn't send a wrestler to State. He went 47-7 and won his first two matches at Section Masters and also captured the VOL title.
145 -- Greg Hartman, Sr.,
Hartman (44-9), steady all season, went 3-2 at State and took third at Section Masters. He guided the Tigers to the CCC title and also won the Divisional.
152 -- Trent Noon, Jr., Oakdale
A broken thumb limited Noon (24-3) to a strong late-season run capped by a seventh at State (4-2), a third at Section Masters and a VOL title.
160 -- Erick Gomez, Sr., Waterford
Gomez (49-7) struck a blow for the small schools with a 3-2 showing at State, where he became the first wrestler in school history to reach State two straight years. The four-time TVL champ also took third at Masters.
171 -- A.C. Brown, Jr., Oakdale
Brown (35-9), working at 189 until the postseason, recorded a 1-2 record at Bakersfield following his second at Section Masters and a first in the VOL.
189 -- Gustavo Verver, Sr., Pitman
Verver (54-6), chiseled from calf to forehead, displayed his final-year improvement with a 4-win run through consolation at State (4-2). He got there via a fourth at Section Masters and victories at the Divisional and CCC.
215 -- Charlie Gilstrap, Sr., Oakdale
Gilstrap (43-8) came home with an eighth at State, but his 5-3 record featured a win over the wrestler who beat him in triple overtime in the Section Masters final. The two-sport star also won the VOL title.
285 -- Chris Serna, Sr., Argonaut
The Mother Lode League qualified a record nine wrestlers to State, anchored by Serna (40-8). He went 1-2 at State after qualifying with a sixth at Section Masters. Serna also won the MLL and his Divisional.
