Authorities conducted checks on about 70 convicted sex offenders Thursday night in Merced County, arresting 22 of them on suspicion of violating parole.
Merced County sheriff's officials said 20 people were arrested after authorities found in their possession objects for luring children, switchblades, knives, pornography, alcohol, ammunition, tear gas and other items that are considered contraband under terms of their parole.
One person was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, while another had an outstanding arrest warrant.
The six-hour enforcement operation was designed to make sure they were complying with state laws and parole restrictions.
