Riverbank moves on ammo plant

The Riverbank City Council will meet tonight on the city's impending takeover of the Army's ammunition plant.

Council members, sitting as the Local Redevelopment Authority, will be asked to give City Manager Rich Holmer permission to enter into a lease with the Army that would turn the plant over to the city as of Thursday.

The redevelopment authority will hold a public hearing on its budget for the plant, but the budget won't be ready for approval until the authority's April 12 meeting.

The city envisions turning the plant into an industrial park. The park has 10 business tenants with more than 150 employees.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 6707 Third St.
