MJC radio plans special broadcast

Modesto Junior College's radio department will broadcast a radio drama presentation of H.G.

Wells' "The War of the Worlds" on Thursday, April Fools' Day, at 8 p.m. on MJC Pirates' Radio.

"The War of the Worlds" is co-produced by MJC radio students Dennis Bloyed and Javier Lopez and features a cast of students enrolled in advanced radio classes.

Instructor Greg Edwards presented the idea of a radio drama as an exercise in production skills and to have his students experience an era when radio was "theater of the mind." Listeners can hear this radio drama by going to www.mjc.edu/piratesradio.

The original radio drama presentation of "The War of the Worlds" aired as a Halloween episode Oct. 30, 1938.

Directed and narrated by Orson Welles, this historic adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1898 novel created a panic in many listeners, who thought an actual Martian invasion was in progress.

MJC Pirates' Radio streams online 24 hours a day and is operated by students enrolled in advanced radio classes at MJC.
