Investigators were sifting clues from a suspicious fire that burned a vacant home Monday night in Modesto's La Loma neighborhood, fire officials said.
The fire occurred about 9:15 p.m. at 415 N. Morton Blvd., near Kewin Park and south of La Loma Avenue.
The first firefighters to arrive found the single-story house in flames, said Modesto Fire Battalion Chief Dan Hinshaw. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes.
Hinshaw said the fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen, entryway and attic. The flames burned through a skylight and damaged the shake roof.

Hinshaw said the house was bank-owned after a foreclosure. He said fire investigators discovered evidence of a flammable liquid that had been poured inside the 1,300-square-foot home.
