Petitions to recall three Hughson City Councilmen arrived at Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder Lee Lundrigan’s office Wednesday morning.
Interim City Clerk Annabelle Aguilar delivered the petitions, aimed at Councilmen Thom Crowder, Doug Humphreys and Ben Manley.
Lundrigan gave the following signature totals: Crowder, 1,007; Humphreys, 983 and Manley, 978. Her office has until May 7 to verify them.
“We’re going to do a 100 percent review of the signatures,” Lundrigan said.
Once that’s complete, the petitions will be returned to Hughson.
If at least 753 of them (representing 25 percent of the city’s registered voters) are determined to be valid, the petitions will be returned to the city and an election set.
A residents’ group circulated the petitions against the councilmen, whom a Stanislaus County Civil Grand Jury found violated state open meeting law and conspired to fire City Manager Joe Donabed.
