Symphony

Oakdale Rodeo

Sponsored by the Oakdale Saddle Club, the 59th annual Oakdale Rodeo features some of the best cowboys in the country. Special attractions include a downtown parade, rodeo announcer Chad Nicholson, bullfighters Rick Moffett and Lewis Jones and rodeo clown Bert Davis. The event is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Earth Day

Modesto's big Earth Day celebration isn't until next weekend, but Riverbank and Modesto Junior College are offering events to tide you over until then. Riverbank's fourth annual "Beyond Earth Day" event includes a farmers market, family fun walk, live music, free tree seedlings and tomato plants and a book drive. MJC's events will include information about how to green your commute, garden, office, dinner table and community. There also will be children's activities, including science demonstrations, a solar telescope, seed planting and arts projects.

Daniel Castro

The Daniel Castro Band is just as comfortable playing raw Chicago blues as it is playing down-home boogie. The Bay Area band strives to both touch audience members' hearts and make them dance. It has played in Chicago, New York, New Orleans, St. Louis and Austin, in addition to Japan.

Violin recital

Dr. Calvin Lee and Mark Jordan will give a violin recital to benefit Modesto Junior College Friends of Music. Lee, who owns Surgical Artistry, was selected to perform with the YouTube Symphony in Carnegie Hall last year. Jordan is the former concertmaster of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. Piano accompanists are Michele Abell and John Hillebrandt.

Art & Wine

Support Patterson Repertory Theatre by hosting the nonprofit group's sixth annual Art and Wine Gala. The event features art, food and wine. The first 250 people receive a commemorative wine glass.

Art Walk

Downtown Modesto's Third Thursday Art Walk is a great way to check out local artists' work and socialize with friends.
