Info: The Aileen Jaffa Young Poets Contest is open to all students in Stanislaus County. The contest includes prizes for first, second and third place in each category. Each student may submit up to three entries at $1 each. Poems may be any style, but no longer than 24 lines. Poems must be the original creative work of the student. Forms are available at the Stanislaus Office of Education, McHenry Museum or by calling Cleo Griffith at 543-1776.

Info: Palestinian citizen of Israel Ismail Kharoub and Jewish Israeli Ofra Yeshua-Lyth will present "Costs of War on Israeli Society." The event is free but donations for peace work in Israel are accepted. The discussion is sponsored by the Modesto Peace/Life Center and the Modesto Church of the Brethren. Info: The Hispanic Leadership Council will host its annual Fiesta Mexicana scholarship fund-raiser. Proceeds from the event will fund educational scholarships. The cost is $50 and includes dinner and dancing. Tickets are available at El Concilio, 1314 H St., or by calling 523-2860.

Info: The New Life Nazarene Church in Riverbank will hold a car wash and bake sale for its Celebrate Recovery program. Participants in the program are planning a celebratory trip to Great America. Info: An introduction to computers class for seniors will include learning operating systems, software applications and file storage. Prerequisites: turning a computer on and off, how to use a mouse and rudimentary knowledge of keyboarding. Cost of class is $40. Preregistration is required.
