Modesto City Council Watch

The Modesto City Council is scheduled to vote today on:

Appointing members of the runoff election ad-hoc committee, a resident panel that will evaluate whether Modesto should keep runoff elections, do away with them or delay them

Awarding a $141,675 contract to Cummins West Inc. of West Sacramento to purchase 10 diesel particulate filter units for the Public Works Department

Accepting a $191,317 grant for the Police Department's Project Wake-Up, a gang prevention program that guides at-risk youth

Applying for a $493,032 state grant for a security wall, video surveillance, gates and lighting for the new bus maintenance facility.

Approving a $100,000 agreement with consultants RMC Water and Environment of Sacramento to provide on-call support to the city's Utility Planning and Projects Department in applying for grants and loans to fund utility projects

Authorizing $28,541 in change orders for the Merle Avenue improvements to the Village I central basin by Teichert Construction.

Signing a $617,136 contract with Clyde Wheeler Pipeline Inc. to lay about 6,750 linear feet of water mains in the East Coolidge Avenue area.

Moving forward with a $918,882 contract with Teichert Construction to repave Claus Road.

Giving a $2,220,701 contract to Valley Slurry Seal Co. of Stockton for slurry seal projects on streets, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

The council will meet in closed session to talk with representatives of the city's employee unions.

The Modesto City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the basement chamber of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.
