The Modesto City Council's Finance Committee is looking at a $5.6 million proposal to overhaul the city's financial and human resources software. The city has been saving for the upgrade, and the costs would be spread out over time across a number of departments. Chief technology officer Gary Cook said the software is coming at a 75 percent discount. The work includes contracts with three companies. The upgrade would let Modesto streamline its budgeting and financial records, doing away with separate systems that sometimes require staff members to repeatedly enter data into programs. The committee meets at 5:30 p.m., Monday on the second floor of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.
