Telling photos in Merced store robbery

A store clerk was hospitalized after being shot during a robbery outside Merced late Monday.

The robbery was reported shortly after 9 p.m. at Shannon's Grocery Liquor-Deli, 369 South State Highway 59, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie. The two suspects remain at large.

MacKenzie said the men entered the store, shot the clerk in the abdomen and leg and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The clerk was flown to a Modesto hospital and was later released. He is expected to make a full recovery.

MacKenzie said investigators are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident.

Details about the shooting are few. So far, they are described as two black men.
