No new leads in Ceres clerk's death

Stanislaus County sheriff's detectives Tuesday did not have any new information in the death of a convenience store clerk who was shot during an apparent botched robbery Friday at the business on South Ninth Street between Modesto and Ceres.

The store remained closed over the weekend. Some well-wishers had placed photographs and flowers on the black security doors.

Harinder Sanghera, 28, of Ceres was shot during the robbery attempt at Gas N Shop in the 800 block of South Ninth Street, said sheriff's Lt. Mike Parker. Parker said it appeared there were no customers in the store or at the gas pumps when two men walked in shortly before 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses told investigators that two men were seen running south on South Ninth Street after the gunfire. Sheriff's officials did not have a description of the men.

Sheriff's officials ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Detective Darwin Hatfield at 525-7100 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
