Sample ballots for the June 8 election are in the mail, and mail-in ballots for absentee voters are expected to start going out by Tuesday.
Residents can register to vote as late as May 24.
The June election is especially competitive for Republicans.
The GOP has contested primaries for the governor's office and for several Northern San Joaquin Valley legislative offices, from Assembly to Congress.
The hottest race in Stanislaus County is for sheriff, with incumbent Adam Christianson defending his seat against challenger Turlock police Capt. Rob Jackson.
