Habitat for Humanity held a Women's Build day in Modesto on Saturday in honor of National Women Build Week held May 1-9. About 20 women were joined by other volunteers who helped renovate a future Habitat home on the corner of Tenaya Ave. and Hermosa Ave. in Modesto. The completion date on the home is not yet known, but volunteers cleared most of the debris required to move onto the next stage of construction for the new home. Habitat for Humanity, Stanislaus is trying to increase building capacity on a yearly basis. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization building simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need. To purchase a Habitat house, buyers must contribute 500 hours of labor, called "sweat equity," in addition to having income at 80 percent or lower of the median income in Stanislaus County.
