Car catches fire on Highway 99 in Ripon, ignites bushes

A San Jose man was driving home on northbound Highway 99 Monday morning when he heard a loud sound from his engine and pulled over in Ripon south of Austin Road. A few minutes later the man's engine caught fire and ignited the bushes next to the car, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Ripon Fire Deparment responded to the call along with CHP. The number three lane of Highway 99 was closed as crews worked to extinguish the car and bushes. The lane was reopened by 11 a.m.
