Stanislaus County sheriff's investigators were questioning three people after a man was injured in a drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon in an unincorporated neighborhood between Modesto and Ceres.
The shooting victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was in stable condition Tuesday evening, said sheriff's Lt. Mario Cisneros. The victim's age and city of residence were not available.
The shooting occurred about 4 p.m. near Herndon Road and Pecos Avenue.
Law enforcement officials happened to be in the area when they spotted a Honda Civic. Cisneros said shots were fired from the Honda at the victim, who was walking nearby. Authorities responded and pulled over the Honda. Three men were inside the car.

The men, in their 20s, were detained but had not been arrested as sheriff's officials continued to investigate the shooting.
Cisneros said the shooting was "very likely" gang-related.
