Yosemite National Park is asking people to comment on a long-term plan for the use of the cables that scale the final ascent to Half Dome.
This summer, people who want to climb Half Dome on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays must get a permit. The park is considering making that a permanent requirement for summer weekends. From May 26 to June 25, people can submit written comments on how the park should maintain Half Dome.
The iconic 8,800-foot peak is one of the parks most popular and strenuous hikes. Lines often back up at the cables on weekends.
To submit comments, write to Superintendent, Half Dome Trail Stewardship Plan EA, P.O. Box 577, Yosemite, CA 95389. For more information, go to www.parkplanning.nps.gov/yose.
