Modesto robbery suspect arrested with 2 others in traffic stop

Police on Thursday afternoon arrested a 36-year-old man suspected of robbing at gunpoint a north Modesto beauty supply store last week, a department spokesman announced Friday.

Lowell Oldenburg of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of stolen property, which stems from a separate incident, said Modesto police Sgt. Rick Armendariz.

He said authorities recovered stolen property while taking Oldenburg into custody to face additional criminal charges.

The armed robbery occurred about 4:30 p.m. May 7 at the California Beauty Supply store at the Oakmoor Plaza Shopping Center in the 1700 block of Oakdale Road, just north of East Briggsmore Avenue.

Armendariz said the robber entered the supply store armed with a handgun and demanded money from an employee. The robber left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen running west through the parking lot.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Officers later identified Oldenburg as the suspect in the robbery and issued an arrest warrant for him, Armendariz said.

On Thursday, Modesto police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of McGerry Street in Modesto, about a mile north of the beauty supply store.

Inside the vehicle was driver Leanna Hess and passengers James Amador and Oldenburg, Armendariz said. After police learned Oldenburg's identity, he was taken into custody without incident.

Inside the vehicle, officers found stolen property, including credit cards and checkbooks, Armendariz said.

Police arrested Hess, 25, of Modesto on suspicion of possession of stolen property, and Amador, 35, of Modesto on suspicion of violating parole. Armendariz said Hess and Amador could face additional charges.
