Deputies search for Delhi glue thief

Merced County sheriff's officials Tuesday were investigating the theft of two gallons of glue from a Delhi preschool.

Officials have no idea why the glue — worth only a few dollars and used for children's arts and crafts — was the only thing stolen in the burglary, said deputy Tom MacKenzie, a sheriff's spokesman.

The theft occurred over the weekend at the preschool in the 16000 block of Delhi Avenue. Preschool employees discovered the burglary Monday morning.

MacKenzie said the thief or thieves apparently pried the clasps off the school's two storage sheds. The glue was the only missing item.

He said it is possible the glue was thought to provide a high, but this glue is not the type usually "sniffed" by addicts.
