Cuts, additions at Turlock schools

The Turlock Unified School District rescinded most of its teacher layoff notices Tuesday night; the number wasn't available but Superintendent Sonny DaMarto said it would amount to about 55 of the 76 issued earlier this year.

The district is trying to negotiate with its unions to take a 2 percent pay cut; administrators agreed to a similar cut Tuesday.

Trustees also heard a report on a proposal to turn Crane School, the former all-day kindergarten, into an "e-cademy," which would cater to home-school, online and independent study students.

Planning is in the early stages, but the district hopes to open the school next year.
