Victim at new hospital as police probe Modesto shooting

A 32-year-old man who was shot and seriously injured Wednesday at a north Modesto apartment complex was transferred to another hospital Thursday and his condition has stabilized, a police spokesman said.

Police did not release the Modesto man's name or say to which hospital he was taken to protect his safety.

Detectives continued speaking to potential witnesses, hoping to get more information about two male suspects involved in the shooting. Police Sgt. Rick Armendariz said a small group of people was involved in a dispute shortly before noon in the parking lot of the Chateau Apartments in the 3000 block of Coffee Road, just north of Rumble Road.

Shots were fired, witnesses told police, and the suspects fled in a vehicle east on Rumble.

No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified.

Police ask anyone with information about this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters also can e-mail tips through the Crime Stoppers Web site, www.modestopolice.com/CrimeStoppers, or text tips to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" plus a message.
