Groveland woman receives white powder in the mail

The manager of an apartment complex received a package in the mail containing an unidentified white powder, the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department reported today.

A deputy was sent to the apartment complex on Elder Lane about 3:30 p.m. Thursday after Glenda Hawkins reported finding the powder in an envelope with no return address.

County health officials took the materials to a laboratory for testing.

Hawkins told investigators she suspects a former tenant may have sent the envelope.
