Shots fired in Modesto bar parking lot

A bar patron told police a man who confronted him in a parking lot early Friday fired several shots as he ran back into a west Modesto tavern.

No injuries were reported.

Modesto police said one stray bullet struck a parked car.

Police believe the incident was an attempted robbery.

The incident happened just after the 2 a.m. closing of El Rodeo bar at 228 Maze Blvd.

The 28-year-old Modesto man said he had left the bar and was standing in the parking lot when the assailant approached him and pulled a handgun from his waistband.

As the victim ran into the bar, he heard several shots fired. The victim described the suspect as a man about 18 to 20 and wearing dark clothing. He was last seen running north on Madison Street.

Police ask anyone with information about this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
