Program teaches drug awareness to parents

The Modesto Police Department is offering a drug recognition course today at its downtown Modesto headquarters as part of a community awareness series.

The course, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at 600 10th St. in Modesto.

The course will cover early indicators every parent should know, including what to look for and why drugs are popular among youths.

A Modesto police drug expert will discuss the types of drugs and how they affect the body.

The course will take place in the department's theater room, so seating is limited.
