Suspect arrested in shooting

TURLOCK -- A police SWAT team on Friday morning arrested a man suspected of firing a gun at a vehicle driven by a woman in late January on Highway 99 near West Main Street.

The woman was not injured in the shooting.

Ivan Alejandro Zamora Blanco, 36, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder stemming from the shooting that occurred on the highway in Turlock, according to Turlock police.

Blanco also was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery that occurred March 28 and assault with a deadly weapon that occurred March 29. Police refused to release any details about the March crimes, including where they occurred.

The shooting took place Jan. 26 after the woman entered Highway 99 from the West Main Street onramp, said Turlock police Lt. Ron Reid. He said the woman and Blanco did not know each other.

Investigators pursued leads and subsequently identified Blanco as a suspect.

About 8 a.m. Friday, a Turlock police SWAT team served the warrant at a home in the 1100 block of Pedras Road, just east of North Golden State Boulevard in Turlock. Blanco was taken into custody without incident.
