LINCOLN EXHIBIT KICK-OFF

When: Thursday, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Modesto Library, 1500 I St.

Info: The Stanislaus County Library will have the national exhibit "Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, a Man for All Times," on display during June. Guests will be greeted by a Lincoln look-alike and the winners of a children's bookmark contest and a student essay contest will be honored. For more information, call 558-7814.

HIGHLAND GAMES

When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Tuolumne River Regional Park

Info: The St. Andrew's Society will hold its Scottish Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans. There will be bagpipes, Celtic music, athletic events and food. Tickets are $13; children younger than 13 are free. For more information, call 529-9430 or go to www.standrewsmodesto.org.

SAFETY FAIR

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Modesto Free Will Baptist Church, 225 E. Orangeburg Ave.

Info: Child Watch 2010 will feature car seat safety checks by appointment, a limited number of free car seats, a Modesto Fire Department truck that children can explore, DNA kits for parents, Internet safety information and more. The event is free. A raffle will be held for those who donate a can or box of nonperishable food. For more information or to make a car seat appointment, call 840-2446.

HUMANE SOCIETY FUND-RAISER

When: Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m.

Where: Sonora Fairgrounds, Manzanita Building and Lawn.

Info: The Humane Society will hold its 14th annual BBQ and Luau with live music, dancing, prizes, children's activities and food. General admission is $20, $15 for members and $10 for children 12 and younger. For more information, call 984-5489.

Coulterville

JOHN MUIR HIGHWAY

When: Saturday, 11 a.m.

Where: Highway 132 at Highway 49

Info: The newly named John Muir Highway, which covers Smith Station Road from Coulterville to Highway 120 east of Groveland, will be dedicated. The event will feature keynote speaker Bill Hanna, great-grandson of the honoree, and Muir impersonator Lee Stetson. It will include a motorcade of vintage cars on the highway. Another dedication by Groveland-area leaders will be at 2 p.m. at the Highway 120 end. For more information, call 878-3074 or 962-0429.
