Thousands of people throughout the Northern San Joaquin Valley paid their respects Monday to the military men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their country. There were Memorial Day ceremonies around the region, including Modesto and Turlock. Above, an honor guard composed of veterans fires a volley from the Seventh Street Bridge in Modesto. The event allowed people such as Elizabeth Addi to drop flowers from the bridge into the Tuolumne River. Rear Adm. Michael Seward of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve was master of ceremonies at Turlock Memorial Park. The occasion featured a wreath provided by the American Legion sitting next to a flag and a rifle.
