The Modesto City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to:
Amend a city ordinance regarding massage establishments. In September, the state started a voluntary permitting program for massage therapists. As a result, the city is barred from regulating businesses participating in the state program.
Approve a street closure so SunBlest Valley Market can hold a farmers market on 10th Street, between H and I streets, each Saturday from May through November. The street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. those days. Representatives of Modesto Certified Farmers Market said new farmers markets usually try not to conflict with existing markets, but council members said they could not restrain competition. The existing market is open Thursday and Saturday mornings on 16th Street between H and I streets.
Defer capital facility fees for residential permits for an additional year. It allows developers to delay paying the fees until occupancy permits are issued for new homes.
Apply for a grant from the the Federal Transit Administration that would dedicate $4.5 million for a bus maintenance facility.
