Farmers markets helping seniors

Low-income seniors in Stanislaus County can get $20 worth of coupons to spend at farmers markets.

The coupon booklets come from the California Department of Food and Agriculture. They are available to people 60 or older with no more than $1,670 in monthly income, or $2,247 for two people in a household.

The coupons can be used until Nov. 30 to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, honey or edible herbs. They will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at these markets:

  • Riverbank: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, community center, 3600 Santa Fe St.
  • Oakdale: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, North Third Avenue between E and F streets
  • Modesto: 8 to 11 a.m. June 12, 16th Street between H and I streets
