Authorities removed what appeared to be a pipe bomb from a central Modesto home Wednesday morning.
Modesto police and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department bomb squad responded at 7:09 a.m. to the report of a possible bomb at a home in the 100 block of Almond Avenue.
According to neighbors, the bomb squad removed a piece of pipe about 20 inches long that was capped at both ends with a long fuselike cord coming from one end. They found the device just inside the front door. Bomb squad officers took it away to be destroyed.
