Fire damages Riverbank home

A fire destroyed a patio and caused extensive smoke damage to a Riverbank home early Sunday, officials reported.

The fire was reported about 1:38 a.m. in the 3700 block of Davis Avenue, between Terminal Avenue and Claus Road.

The fire appeared to have started in the patio and spread to the garage, kitchen and living room, said Battalion Chief Paul Spani with the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District.

He said the fire caused minimal damage to the home and some damage to the garage. He said the fire's cause is under investigation.

The home appeared to be occupied, he said, but no one was home when firefighters arrived.
