Yosemite National Park on Wednesday is expected to open the cables on the final ascent up Half Dome.
Snow remains just below the cables, meaning the hiking conditions are still slippery on the iconic peak. The cables typically are in place the weekend before Memorial Day, but a wet winter and cool spring left more snow along the route than usual.
Hikers must get a permit to climb Half Dome on weekends and holidays. For more information, go to www.nps.gov/yose/.
