It's corn dog time in Merced, where the Merced County Fair opened Tuesday for a week of fun.
The fair typically takes place during the heat of July, but the dates were moved up to an unexpectedly cool June because of a change in the state fair's calendar.
The Stanislaus County Fair will run from July 16-25 at the fairgrounds in Turlock.
It opens at 5 p.m. through Friday and at noon Saturday and Sunday.
A mix of performances are scheduled for 8:30 each night, including country singer Clay Walker on Thursday, Tower of Power on Friday, '80s rockers Night Ranger on Saturday and Latin Grammy award winner Alicia Villarreal on Sunday.
