San Joaquin County residents took home buckets of itty-bitty mosquitofish Wednesday at Escalon's Hogan Park.
They were provided by the San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control Fish Hatchery.
Mosquitofish are a non-native species best kept in ornamental ponds away from natural waterways.
The San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control hosted a giveaway program in recognition of National Mosquito Control Awareness Week.
Mosquitofish have big appetites and can be used to control the spread of mosquito larvae.
