Modesto is shutting its main government offices around Independence Day, aiming to save money through two mandatory furlough days and reduced energy use.
It will close Tenth Street Place in downtown Modesto from Friday, July 2, through Monday, July 5.
Emergency operations will function as usual, with all 11 fire stations remaining open.
The lobby in the downtown police station at 600 10th St. will stay open July 2 but close July 5. People can use a phone outside the station to reach an officer.
Other emergency services will remain operational, including trees at 342-2249, street repairs at 342-2244, traffic signals at 342-2297 and water services at 342-2246.
