Stanislaus County authorities recovered a body from a canal Sunday that may be that of a Lake Tulloch man who had been missing for about two weeks. Sheriff's Lt. Jim Gordon said the body matches the physical description of the missing man, but the coroner's office will need to make a definitive identification. He said the coroner's office may have an answer as soon as today. Scott Eric Smith, 44, fell into the north canal near the Calaveras-Tuolumne county line June 21. Gordon said the body was recovered in a canal in northeast Stanislaus County. He said Smith's family has been notified that authorities may have found his remains.
