Officers arrested a man suspected of robbing an ice cream vendor at gunpoint Thursday afternoon in west Modesto.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. The robbery occurred about 2:45 p.m. near Sutter and Rouse avenues, about two blocks south of Marshall Park. The vendor was selling ice cream from a cart pushed by a bicycle, said Sgt. Rick Armendariz, a police spokesman.
Two young men approached the vendor and demanded cash. One of the men then brandished what appeared to be a sawed-off rifle, Armendariz said. The men did not steal any money, but took off with stolen ice cream.
Officers found one of the suspects, 20-year-old Isaiah Montellano, at a nearby market.
Armendariz said Montellano was taken into custody without further incident and arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The second suspect was not found.
