Two men accused of beating another man to death after violence erupted at a cockfight this past weekend pleaded not guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter Wednesday in Merced County Superior Court.
Juan Carlos Aguilera and Rafael Orosco were arrested July 1 after Inocencio Gutierrez- Rodriguez, 35, of Riverbank was beaten to death, according to a statement by the Merced County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities said Orosco and Aguilera appeared to have been retaliating against Gutierrez-Rodriguez, believing he shot Orosco's brother Miguel Romo Orosco over a $10 bet at the cockfight near Livingston.
Miguel Romo Orosco died from the gunshot wound.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty in a videoconference arraignment.
Their bail was set at $200,000 each.
