Stanislaus County coroner officials on Wednesday released the name of a 24-year-old man who died early Saturday when the car he was driving drifted off a north Modesto road and struck a traffic-light pole.
Ricardo Gutierrez of Ripon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police initially reported the man was from Riverbank, because at one point he was living with relatives there.
The crash occurred about 1:15 a.m. at Pelandale Avenue and Carver Road.
The man was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile sedan east on Pelandale.
The force of the impact sheared off the driver's side of the car, according to Modesto police.
It appeared alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, police said.
