Stanislaus Union School District Trustee John Gunderson is trying to get something started, but he needs a helping hand.
Actually, he just needs lots of index fingers clicking on the Pepsi Refresh Project button by his $50,000 grant request.
He's looking for help to launch a martial arts program for at-risk students in the north Modesto district.
Scholarships would be available for students with behavioral issues, academic difficulties, foster children or those at risk of gang influence. The training is meant to span three years.
Gunderson calls it a "leadership skills and character development program."
According to the Pepsi site, visitors may vote repeatedly.
There are 1,000 requests posted each month, and grants will be awarded based on votes cast by Aug. 30.
