The federal government on Wednesday listed the retailers believed to have stocked the frozen beef recalled last week by Valley Meat Co. of Modesto.
The company voluntarily recalled about a million pounds of bulk ground beef and patties because of possible contamination by E. coli bacteria. Seven people have become ill, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The beef in question was produced from Oct. 2, 2009, to Jan. 12, 2010, and was sold in California, Texas, Oregon, Arizona and internationally.
