NEWMAN — Police are looking for those involved in a gang-related drive-by shooting late Tuesday near Main Street that injured one man.
The 18-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the bottom of his foot, said Newman police Lt. Brett Short.
The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening. Police did not release his name to ensure his safety.
The shooting was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. near Main and Tulare streets. Witnesses told police they saw a blue Honda with tinted windows and a spoiler, and that someone inside was firing a gun at a group of people.
The group fled west into a residential neighborhood. Officers canvassed the area but did not find any victims or the shooters' vehicle. They did recover shell casings at the scene.
About 11:50 p.m., police received a report of a shooting victim in the 2200 block of Mesa Verde Lane, about a mile southwest of the shooting scene.
The victim told police that someone in a vehicle shot him while he was near Main and Tulare. The victim, however, declined to give investigators details about his companions or possible suspects, Short said.
Officers continued speaking to wit-nesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
No suspects had been arrested or identified as of Wednesday evening.
Short said initial information gathered in the investigation indicates that the shooting was most likely gang- related.
